The Robert Silman Award, presented biennially by the Fitch Foundation, offers up to $15,000 to an engineer, architect, or other preservation-related professional for an original proposal exploring preservation, restoration, or adaptive reuse of the built environment in the spirit of Robert Silman, a leading expert in structural engineering and sustainability. Proposals may address real projects or be conceptual, and must advance preservation practice in the United States while presenting clear goals, a feasible work plan, and a plan for dissemination within 24 months. Individuals—not organizations or university-sponsored research—may apply, and eligible fields include engineering, architecture, preservation, urban design, landscape architecture, archaeology, advocacy, and preservation law. Applications require a project description, budget, schedule, CV, and two letters of support, and selected awardees are notified in spring 2026 and work with a Trustee advisor throughout the project.
Application deadline: Monday December 15, 2025
