Historic New England has opened a design competition for a permanent, accessible public restroom at Walter Gropius’s Gropius House in Lincoln, MA. The “A Bauhaus Bathroom” competition seeks designs that reflect the Bauhaus spirit — functional, creative, and deeply connected to Gropius’s architectural legacy — while enhancing the experience of arriving at the site and adjacent visitor’s center. Submissions must be PDFs including site plans, floor plans, sections, renderings, and a narrative. Winners receive a $5,000 prize, inclusion in the Gropius House archives, and an exhibition at the property. In addition, Historic New England hopes to ultimately realize the design. The deadline for submissions is February 6, 2026.
