Classically Rose – Saturday Brunch at the James Rose Center

June 8, 2024

Join the James Rose Center for live music, a light continental brunch in the gardens, and an in-depth tour led by Dean Cardasis, the Center’s Director and leading expert on the landscape and architecture of James Rose.

Steve Freides will perform the classical guitar music of Matteo Carcassi, Ferdinando Carulli and Mauro Guilliani (among others) as a juxtaposition with the less-than-classical environment designed by James Rose as we spend the morning touring and re-discovering the spring gardens of the Center during this unique event.

The James Rose Center, completed in 1953, served as architect James C. Rose’s (1913–1991) personal residence in Ridgewood, NJ until his death in 1991. However, before he died he created a foundation to support the conversion of his home into the Center. Today it serves as a non-profit landscape research and study foundation. The Center is known for its unique modern spatial language, its expression of an alternative approach to conventional post-war suburban residential development and as the constantly changing laboratory of one of landscape architecture’s most inventive minds. Visit the James Rose Center website for more information on tours and open hours.
