As our chapter’s contribution to Docomomo US Tour Day 2020 celebrating the theme “The ’70s Turn 50,” we will be presenting a virtual tour of Marcus Garvey Village in Brooklyn. Our guide Mark Ginsberg, FAIA, of Curtis + Ginsberg Architects, designed a major renovation to the complex. He will explain the project’s background, its strengths and weaknesses, how it fared over time and how the renovation revitalized the complex.
Women’s absence from accounts of American architectural history has been a longstanding problem. In 2017, the Pioneering Women of American Architecture website was launched with the goal of documenting and publicizing women’s contributions to the built environment in the United States. In a lecture hosted by the Glass House, project co-editors Mary McLeod and Victoria Rosner, together with contributor Michael Kubo, will talk about their work on this timely project .
This Bard Graduate Center presentation examines the relationship between Eileen Gray’s distinctive drawing techniques and the spatial qualities of her architecture. It begins with Gray’s sketches for the Galerie Jean Désert in Paris, carried out (most likely with Jean Badovici) in 1922, and extends to her drawings for the houses E 1027 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (1926–29) and Tempe a Pailla outside Castellar (1931–35).
