From June 21–25, experience New Haven, CT, one of the country’s most densely woven collections of midcentury art, design, and architecture. As we take in this cultural epicenter, we will consider the triumphs and complexities surrounding the design and construction of the Modern city, as well as the impact it has had on our collective communities.
The Docomomo US National Symposium is the primary event in the United States for those interested in the preservation of modern architecture. The National Symposium seeks to gather, discuss, share and explore this heritage, while considering its legacy and importance today. Held annually, this multi-day conference seeks to engage local participation in cities across the United States, offering participants the ability to interact with and explore a wide variety of significant modern architecture and sites.
The 2023 National Symposium is a joint partnership of Docomomo US and the New York/Tri-State chapter along with the New Haven Preservation Trust, Preservation Connecticut, Yale University, Yale University Library and the CT State Historic Preservation Office.
The National Symposium will take place from Wednesday June 21 through Sunday June 25. Wednesday will feature an opening keynote and reception. Thursday and Friday will each begin with morning sessions; Friday will end with an evening reception. A variety of al la carte registrations are also available throughout the duration of the Symposium, including a series of tours each day. AIA CEUs will be offered for all sessions and tours upon approval.
