Preserving modern architecture in the Hamptons

November 23, 2021

There is a new modernist preservation group in town, but local to the Hamptons—Hamptons 20 Century Modern. Interior designer Timothy Godbold formed the grassroots organization in 2020 with a mission dedicated to the awareness and conservancy of modern architecture on Long Island, NY. Bringing attention to significant period houses and their creators is a first step in fending off real estate development pressures that will continue to threaten these houses. The group is currently advocating on behalf of a house designed by Norman Jaffe (1932–1993) which is in the middle of a drawn out demolition review at Southampton council. Tune in to Hampton 20 Century Modern’s website or Instagram to learn more.
