Special Edition: Places of Worship, Vol. 1, edited by Bob Jaeger, President, Partners for Sacred Spaces, is out. As part of its 2025 annual theme, Places of Worship, Docomomo US explores the often-overlooked architectural and cultural significance of postwar Modern religious buildings found across the country. Far more than spaces for worship alone, these structures frequently serve as community hubs—hosting education, arts, social services, and outreach. At a time when many congregations are shrinking, these bold and innovative buildings face both challenges and opportunities, prompting efforts to adapt and preserve them for continued civic use. This special edition of the newsletter is part of a larger initiative to examine how these sacred places can be reimagined to meet the evolving needs of their communities.
