Docomomo US’s 2022 National Symposium “Yo! Modernism,” in collaboration with Docomomo US/Philadelphia, is set for June 1–4 in Philadelphia, PA. “Yo,” colloquially brings attention to something, in this case modern movement architecture and planning and the importance of its preservation through the community lens. The Docomomo US National Symposium is the primary event in the United States for professionals to discuss and share efforts to preserve modern architecture and to meet leading practitioners and industry professionals.
Researchers, practitioners, and enthusiasts working on the preservation, conservation, renovation or transformation of buildings, sites and neighborhoods of the Modern Movement are called to submit work contributing to the broader discussion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. Abstracts that align with the following thematic goals are being accepted through January 31, 2022:
– Promote a broader understanding and appreciation of Philadelphia’s diverse modernisms
– Broaden the range of voices identified with and as modern heritage
– Consider city planning’s role in shaping modern heritage
– Explore the role of archives and archival collections in modern heritage conservation
View the website for more details and information on topics that make for successful submissions. The 2021 symposium is currently available for viewing online.
