In lieu of a National Symposium in 2025, Docomomo US is partnering with the Historic Preservation Education Foundation to provide the tour programs for the 2025 Preserving the Recent Past 4 conference in Boston from March 19-22. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking Preserving the Recent Past (PRP) conference and the founding of Docomomo US, PRP4 will provide a national forum to share the latest strategies for identifying, protecting, and conserving significant structures and sites from the post-World War II era. DOCOMOMO US/New York Tri-State is providing financial support for two individuals, students or emerging professionals, to participate in the conference, and we are pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s grant: Robert Louis Brandon Edwards and Cecelia Halle.
Robert Louis Brandon Edwards is a third-year PhD student in Historic Preservation at Columbia, focused on Black mobility. He is currently working with the owners of the 1948 William Arrasmith designed Greyhound bus station in Cleveland, OH, to document the National Landmarked streamline moderne/art deco building.
Cecelia Halle is a second-year graduate student in Historic Preservation at Columbia who has undertaken several student projects focused on midcentury modern and currently serves on the ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on the Preservation of 20th Century Heritage.
Applicants were asked to demonstrate their committed interest in the fields of history, architectural preservation, architecture, landscape architecture or related disciplines and how attendance at the conference will meaningfully advance their goals or work. Applicants actively engaged in issues concerning the documentation and conservation of buildings, sites, and neighborhoods of the Modern Movement were given preference. After the recipients attend the conference, they will share their experience.
