UNESCO has added more modern architecture to the World Heritage List. The 2026 inscriptions include 13 works by Alvar, Aino, and Elissa Aalto in Finland, a collection of 10 modernist sites in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and an expansion to Berlin’s Waldsiedlung Zehlendorf housing estate listing.
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, a federal executing agency, is unilaterally proposing changes that will eviscerate the Section 106 process as it has existed for 60 years to protect historic properties from adverse effect from federal projects.
