Whitney interiors may soon have landmark status

In December, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to calendar interior designation—including the main staircase and bluestone-floored lobby—of the former Whitney Museum of American Art. A vote should happen by the end of April. In January, three proposed alterations requested by Sotheby’s, the new owner, were brought before the Commission for CofA review and successfully resolved.

Threatened Walter Netsch Buildings at Wells College

Wells College in Aurora, NY, has closed its doors and put its campus up for sale due to ongoing financial struggles. It has also turned heat and water off to the campus. Three important buildings designed by Walter Netsch from the late 1960s and early 1970s are at risk. Public letters of support for designation are needed before a Febraury 19 hearing.
