During this tour organized by AIA New York, view a sampling of buildings spanning four centuries on the island first known as Blackwell’s Island, later Welfare Island, and—since 1973—Roosevelt Island. Explore a community planned by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, Louis Kahn’s Four Freedoms Park, and the new Cornell Tech campus. Other highlights include the restored Blackwell farmhouse and Good Shepherd Chapel, James Renwick’s Smallpox Hospital ruins, housing by Johansen & Bhavnani, Sert, Jackson & Associates, and Gruzen Samton, and new Cornell Tech buildings by Snøhetta, Morphosis, and Weiss/Manfredi. The tour will be led by DOCOMOMO US/New York Tri-State board member Kyle Johnson.
