Friends of The Lustron House invite you to visit the Lustron House in Closter, NJ. The Lustron house, invented by industrialist Carl Strandlund (1899–1974), was built using prefabricated enameled steel as an exterior material and some form of steel for almost everything except the concrete slab. The homes were most popular in the 1950s.
This Lustron House, the Harold Hess Lustron House, was built in 1950 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 25, 2000. It is owned by the Borough of Closter, NJ, and managed by the Closter Historic Society Friends of the Lustron group and oversight is provided by the Closter Historic Preservation Commission.
