The Organic Architecture + Design Archive: Wright and More

August 17, 2023

Since its founding in 2013, the Organic Architecture + Design Archives (OA+D) has grown to become one of the major repositories of material relating to organic architecture. Containing drawings, blueprints, photos, slides, artwork, and objects relating to the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, OA+D was chosen by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to be the official stewards of the work of Wright’s successor firm, Taliesin Associated Architects. In this Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy talk by Eric O’Malley, learn about the archive, its activities, and how materials can be accessed.

Additionally, OA+D holds archival material created by many other practitioners whose work follows organic principles, such as Bruce Goff, Louis Sullivan, Purcell & Elmslie, and more. Work by these designers is explored in the organization’s highly regarded tri-annual publication The Journal of Organic Architecture + Design

Eric O’Malley has been associated with efforts to preserve the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and other organic designers for over 20 years. He helped co-found the popular preservation news blogs PrairieMod™ and Wright Society™ and is currently a board member of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy. In 2013, he co-founded Organic Architecture + Design Archives, Inc., to preserve and make publicly accessible the archival material of those who created work in the organic tradition.
