Catholic liturgical art and architecture flowered in the decades after World War II as congregations and Church leaders advocated for new spaces of worship that reflected the modern era. Although secular architecture firms often receive the most credit for designing innovative ecclesiastical buildings, much of the creative energy to modernize churches and liturgical art sprang from members of the Church.
This fast-paced virtual tour will visit three different areas of the United States to show how significant modern spaces of worship resulted from thoughtful collaborations within and outside of the Catholic Church. The speakers will explore the Church leaders, members of the clergy and religious orders, architects, and artists who created them; and highlight some of the unique artistic mediums and materials in postwar Catholic churches.
