Perhaps no street in Manhattan experienced greater change in the 20th century than Park Avenue. From a gritty street of brick and mortar to one of shimmering glass office towers, this wide boulevard has many signature mid-century modern works. On this Municipal Art Society tour led by Matt Postal, icons such as Lever House, the Seagram Building and the Pan Am Building will be examined closely, as well as some of their lesser-known contemporaries, including designs by Emery Roth & Sons and Henry Dreyfuss. Recent efforts to restore and reform the street’s classic modern character will also be addressed, including new towers by Foster + Partners.
