Montreal’s Expo 67 World’s Fair, Part 2: Île Ste-Hélène

Join New York Adventure Club for a lecture series on the extraordinary story of Montreal’s Expo ’67, a World’s Fair that captivated the globe with its bold vision, unforgettable architecture, and ambitious undertakings—including creating an entire island to host the event. In Part Two: Île Ste-Hélène, highlights each of the pavilions on the man-made island, as well as La Ronde, the fair’s amusement zone.

How did a fair that almost didn’t happen become one of the most celebrated World’s Fairs of all time? From building an island in the middle of a bustling river to drawing millions of visitors, Expo ’67 proved naysayers wrong and became a symbol of innovation and cultural unity. Discover how this landmark event forever transformed Montreal.

Led by world’s fairs expert Bill Cotter, this special experience featuring rarely seen photos and videos will include:

  • The iconic United States pavilion: the world’s largest geodesic dome, and a marvel of architectural innovation
  • An exploration of the international pavilions from the modern structures of Austria and Switzerland to the traditional designs of China and Korea
  • A look at several important corporate pavilions including the Telephone Pavilion, Du Pont of Canada, and even the Boy Scouts
  • The colorful La Ronde amusement area featuring groundbreaking new rides as well as attractions recycled from previous world’s fairs
  • Rare photos and stories from Cotter’s extensive personal collection, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the fair’s legacy

Montreal’s Expo 67 World’s Fair, Part 3: Île Notre Dame

The final virtual program in this series exploring the history of Montreal’s Expo 67 World’s Fair will take place on Thursday February 13. In Part Three: Île Notre Dame, attendees will take an in-depth virtual look at the Fair’s many international pavilions, as well as how the site changed for “Man and His World” theme park and what visitors can see there today. Presented by the New York Adventure Club.

Program highlights include:

  • The massive USSR pavilion filled with cutting-edge space exploration hardware and bold predictions for undersea mining
  • The varied Canadian pavilions including the iconic inverted Katimavik pyramid, which celebrated the host nation’s culture and innovation
  • Dozens of international pavilions: one of the largest gatherings of nations ever featured at a world’s fair
  • What happened after Expo ’67 ended, including the transition to the “Man and His World” theme park and its evolution through the decades
  • Rare photos and stories from Cotter’s extensive personal collection, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the fair’s legacy
