Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island was one of Louis Kahn’s last projects before his unexpected death in 1974. A testament to the strength of design, the memorial park was completed to Kahn’s design in 2012. If you need an extra incentive to make a Spring visit to this modern masterwork the Four Freedoms Park Conservancy is hosting a day of volunteering and fun as part of New York state’s I Love My Park Day May 6. Volunteers will assemble Adirondack chairs on the Great Lawn that will welcome residents and visitors alike to enjoy the outdoors and find respite in this iconic urban oasis.
I Love My Park Day, the largest single-day volunteering opportunity in New York State, celebrates New York’s parks and public lands by cleaning up open spaces, restoring trails and habitats, and completing beautification and improvement projects.
