Demolition begins at Rolex headquarters at 665 Fifth Avenue

April 24, 2022

Last fall, we reported that Rolex Realty Company LLC had hired David Chipperfield Architects to design a 25-story building to replace its current company headquarters building at 665 Fifth Avenue and had filed for demolition permits. Scaffolding and netting is now up and demolition began in early April. Rolex first built on the site in 1912. In 1975 they transformed the building into the 12-story International style building currently on the site, only to demolish it and build ground up, double in size. It’s a wake up call to every mid-rise building in Midtown. The new building will feature office space and retail frontage, as well as outdoor terraces and a 3-story atrium. A completion date has not been announced, but renderings are available in the NY YIMBY article.
